This is quite easy to understand but the question is do we actually understand to implement it in our lives! We have taken our Deen quite casually. Some have made it only as rituals to practice and for some those rituals also don’t matter, they simply neglect it. They say that it’s enough to keep the Deen only in the heart and when asked about the actions – they only shrug their shoulders by telling that’s not important because it’s only between you and your Maker. I have a lot of sympathy for them and so I make it a point to make them understand with this simple quote.
Our belief depends on our actions, our actions depend on our intentions and our intentions depend on our submission to our Maker. ― Dr. Nisar Ahmad bin Ibrahim
All four must be in place together to walk on the straight path!
We must understand that before the righteous deeds, the most important factor is our belief. So one must ask – Do we actually believe? Do we have absolute belief in our Maker? Do we have belief in the unseen? Do we have belief in paradise and hell fire? And if we say we believe, then do we show that belief in our actions?
We all know that this life is temporary and the permanent life is the hereafter. Yet we give more importance to the temporary life of this duniya. We teach our kids and even push them hard to give more importance to their worldly education. It’s we who make them more greedy for money and the status in the society. On the other hand, we have failed miserably to teach them the Deen and to value their Iman (belief) and the importance of worshipping Allah. We are more worried about their life in this world but we don’t seem to be worried about their hereafter – their permanent life! We have indeed taken our permanent life for granted. This might be because we have assumed that just because we have Muslim names and have been born in a Muslim family we are entering Jannah, just like that as if it’s our inheritance!
Islam is not a religion of keeping our belief in our hearts alone. It’s a religion which makes us practice and to be obedient to our Maker after having accepted to be in submission to Allah. To be in submission to Allah, we must follow the way of our prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم). This is because Allah sent all His messengers only to teach us that there is only one God and how we must all worship Him alone!
Ironically, we also get to meet people who don’t do anything to walk on the straight path and then expect Allah to guide them. They continue persisting with their sins and enjoying their lives and then have the audacity to say that they will follow Deen once Allah will guide them. Their words reflect their arrogance. They assume that if Allah needs them, then He will only guide them. We must know that it’s we who need Him and not the other way around!
❝This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah -Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them,And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith].Those are upon [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.❞
These verses from the Qur’an show that belief in the unseen is actually a foundation on which each one must work on. Coz when we are sure of the hereafter, then only we can work hard for it. When we are sure of meeting our Rab, then we can surely work on building our iman and our khuluq (character). When we are sure of hell fire, then we can fear to protect ourselves and our family from the fire. Just like we would have done if we would have faced a real fire in this world!
May Allah help us to realise that we must not exchange our guidance and belief for this world but we must work hard to get the everlasting Jannah. And that is the real truth!
