I have seen that many people cannot restrain themselves when someone abuses or mocks them, especially in this current age of social media where trolling is quite common. People end up in derogatory expletives out of frustration and anger. Sadly, they do not realize that it’s a sin to use such foul language!
So how should we react when we face this ourselves. The best example is that of our prophet (ﷺ). He never abused back anyone. He used to ignore people who mock and abuse him. We should actually draw examples from him to lead our life on this earth. The Quran also advises us to bear patience and to ignore such ignorant people.
Thus we learn that we shouldn’t lower ourselves and stoop low in our character by replying them in their language, coz that doesn’t befit a Muslim!
I always remember this quote of Imam Ash-Shafi’i (May Allah have mercy on him);
“Say what you wish in abuse of me, for my silence towards the idiot is indeed my answer. I am not at a loss for a response but rather, it doesn’t befit the lion to answer the dogs.”
And do not dishearten yourselves coz it’s all a test for us. So remember that the sabr (patience) that you bear and the act of forgiveness that u show is quite beloved to Allah. So He has promised that we will get the last laugh in the hereafter on those who laugh and mock at you today for following the way of our prophet (ﷺ) and obeying Allah and disconnecting ourselves from the things that the current world considers permissible and normal whereas it’s actually prohibited and quite shameful acts.
My evidence:

(Quran 25:63)
And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily(gently), and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace.
(Quran 3:186)
You will certainly be tried in your property and your persons. And you will certainly hear from those who have been given the Book before you and from the idolaters much abuse. And if you are patient and keep your duty, surely this is an affair of great resolution.
(Quran 3:134)
Who spend [in the cause of Allah ] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people – and Allah loves the doers of good;
Abu Huraira ( رضي الله عنه ) reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
It is not befitting the truthful that they curse others.
